Welcome Pastor John Maroni as the New Congregations in Transition Coordinator
The Grand Canyon Synod is excited to announce that Pastor John Maroni will serve as the Congregations in Transition Coordinator starting in 2025. Pastor John brings a wealth of experience and a deep passion for guiding congregations through periods of transition.
In addition to his new role, Pastor John continues to serve as pastor at Shepherd of the Desert Lutheran Church in Sun City, Arizona. A graduate of Trinity Lutheran Seminary with a Master of Divinity, Pastor John has served ELCA congregations for nearly two decades. His ministry journey has included a first call in Greenford, Ohio; leading a two-point parish in Sandyville and Baltic, Ohio; and pastoring a congregation in Eaton, Colorado.
Pastor John and his wife, Lisa, live in Peoria, Arizona, where Lisa teaches second grade at Paseo Verde Elementary School. Their family also includes Kriya, their pastel-calico cat who adds a touch of joy to their home.
As we welcome Pastor John, we also want to express our heartfelt gratitude to Deacon Katie Kline for her faithful service as Interim Director for Congregation Transition over the past year. Deacon Katie’s dedication and leadership have been a blessing to the synod during this important time.
Pastor John is ready to assist congregations navigating leadership changes and looks forward to connecting with you. You can reach him at mobility@gcsynod.org for guidance or support.
Please join us in praying for Pastor John, Deacon Katie, and the congregations they have served and will continue to serve. May the Holy Spirit guide us all in this work of transition and renewal.
