JUSTmove: Intercultural Development for Wherever You Are on Your Journey

We’re thrilled to welcome Joe Davis and David Scherer of JUSTmove as our featured guests for the 2025 Grand Canyon Synod Assembly. With over 30 years of combined experience in intercultural bridge building, personal growth, and artistic expression, Joe and David will lead us through a cohesive, spiritually rich experience across our assembly days. In addition to presenting during dedicated sessions, they are also partnering with our worship team to shape our collective liturgical experience.

JUSTmove offers a holistic, body-centered approach to intercultural development. Their work is rooted in four key values:

  • Invitational – creating growth not through guilt, but by offering a better story

  • Intentional – offering strategic, evidence-based practices

  • Intersectional – recognizing that liberation is collective and multidimensional

  • Incarnational – honoring embodied trauma and healing through the arts

Joe and David are not only skilled facilitators but also gifted artists, using storytelling, spoken word, and music to engage communities in authentic movement along the arc of cultural humility. As Qualified Administrators of the Intercultural Development Inventory (IDI), their work helps individuals and organizations grow in cultural awareness in ways that are spiritually grounded, emotionally resonant, and theologically aligned with our Lutheran call to love and serve all neighbors.

Their presence throughout the Synod Assembly is part of our continued commitment to growth, justice, and faith lived out in community. We encourage all voting members, rostered ministers, and guests to fully engage with these sessions, allowing their ministry to inform both heart and mind as we gather, worship, and discern together.

…to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ, until all of us come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to maturity, to the measure of the full stature of Christ.
— Ephesians 4:12-13
