Uniting Lutheran and Episcopal Voices: Advent Service of Hope and Peace
This Advent season, the Lutheran and Episcopal communities in Chandler and Mesa invite you to a unique service that brings together both traditions in a celebration of hope, peace, and joyful anticipation. On Sunday, December 8th, at 5:00 PM, St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church in Chandler will host a collaborative service with First Lutheran Church of Mesa, Holy Trinity Lutheran Church of Chandler, and St. Mark’s Episcopal Church of Mesa.
The music programs at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church and St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church are joining together again to offer their third Service of Advent Lessons and Carols. Music directors Rachel Salemi and Charles Zoll formulated this ecumenical service of music and readings in order to bring the two Erie Street church music programs together, which each host the same size vocal choir and handbell choir.
Both churches share a love and passion for uplifting choral music and joyful handbell ringing, and to make this year’s celebration even more special they have invited two more churches (which also happen to be down the street from each other): St. Mark’s Episcopal and First Evangelical Lutheran.
Join us as we tell the story of Advent and wait for the coming of Christ on Sunday, December 8 2024 at 5pm at St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church in Chandler, AZ. Stay for hot chocolate and cookies afterwards!
If you’re looking to experience Advent through a shared Lutheran and Episcopal lens, we warmly welcome you to join in. Whether you seek to center yourself in the spiritual meaning of the season, connect with fellow congregants from both traditions, or simply enjoy beautiful music, this service offers a meaningful way to prepare your heart for Christmas.
