Grand Canyon Synod Campus Ministries on retreat

Our campus ministries from Arizona State University and the University of Arizona went to San Diego for the 43rd Annual Labor Day Weekend Retreat.

As always we are lodged in different locations (okay, we sleep on church floors) and get together for beach time and a Mission Bay breakfast followed by a form of Yoga done to various Bible verses, then interactive get-acquainted activities.

In Memoriam: Heidi Gerrish

5/27/2022 update: more info from Heidi’s father, Paul, and links a GoFundMe page and to CaringBridge health updates for Justin and Katherine.

We lift up in prayer the friends and family of Heidi Gerrish. Heidi died at the scene of an automobile accident Saturday morning, May 21, 2022, while traveling to her sister Julie’s graduation from Pacific Lutheran Theological Seminary. Also in the car were her partner Justin, and her brother and sister-in-law, Stephen and Katherine.

Thousands of flags placed to remember lives lost during pandemic

Pastor Rebecca Boardman shares news coverage of two events held at the University of Arizona Mall, with speeches, poems, and songs. The event by the University Religious Council centered around 2,800 white flags placed on the UofA Mall, one flag for every ten Arizonans lost to COVID-19. View the story here.

Growing Future Ministries on Campus

As part of our Growing Generosity Appeal, we present this video on growing future ministries on campus in the Grand Canyon Synod: $50,000 for University of Arizona Campus ministry to sustain the Lutheran presence on the campus in collaboration with Presbyterian, Methodist, and Episcopal partners, and $50,000 will be allocated to explore and potentially launch a Lutheran Campus Ministry program in the Las Vegas area.

Bishop Hutterer: Awaiting the Spirit

It has been a while since I wrote about in-person gathering for worship. I was waiting for certainty before I grabbed my pen. I was waiting for clarity from the federal government and the CDC, from health scientists, and from our state health departments and governors. I waited for a common-sense consensus amongst the citizens of our nation. I turned to the books of wisdom in the Old Testament, hoping for a revelation.

Rev. Rebecca Boardman is the new Campus Pastor at U of A

The Lutheran Campus Ministry Board at the University of Arizona is pleased and happy to announce that the Grand Canyon Synod has called the Rev. Rebecca Boardman as the new Campus Pastor at the U of A. Rebecca will be relocating to Tucson in early June and plans to join us at the synod assembly. Please keep Pastor Rebecca and the LCM at U of A in your prayers as we continue the transition into this new era of ministry.
