A Testament to Service: Campus Ministry Leaders Awarded for Outstanding Contributions
We are thrilled to announce that two of our esteemed leaders from the Grand Canyon Synod, Pastor Rebecca Boardman and Pastor Mike Girlinghouse, have been honored with prestigious awards from the LuMin network for their exceptional service in campus ministry.
Pastor Rebecca has been awarded the James R. Carr Distinguished Service Award. This award, which has been recognizing distinguished service in campus ministry since 1983, includes a stipend to encourage international travel and engagement, enriching the recipient’s service with a broader perspective and deeper understanding of global Christian communities.
In a delightful turn of events, Pastor Mike Girlinghouse was chosen for the Sue E. Rothmeyer Advocacy for Campus Ministry Award. Although he was nominated for another category, the selection committee was so moved by his interim service as a campus pastor and his continuous advocacy for campus ministry that they awarded him for his broader contributions to the field.
These awards not only recognize Pastor Rebecca’s and Pastor Mike’s hard work and dedication but also highlight their impactful presence in our communities and their ongoing commitment to nurturing young minds in faith. Pastor Rebecca’s role has been marked by her adventurous spirit and steadfast service, while Pastor Mike’s advocacy and interim pastoral work have significantly influenced campus ministry’s integration within the wider church and society.
Join us in congratulating Pastor Rebecca and Pastor Mike on these well-deserved accolades. Their recognition is a testament to their passion for ministry and their exceptional leadership within the ELCA. We are proud to have such dedicated servants leading our community.
