Summer 2024: A Season of Musical Growth and Worshipful Engagement
As the summer of 2024 approaches, our Grand Canyon Synod community has numerous opportunities to engage with, learn from, and participate in various worship and music-oriented events. Read the full article from ELCA Worship at ELCA.org. Here’s a snapshot of what’s on the horizon for our Lutheran and ecumenical partners:
Lutheran Summer Music Academy and Festival (LSM) Since 1981, LSM has been a beacon of musical and faith development for students in grades 8-12. This year, the festival runs from June 30 to July 28, with final openings now available for various instruments. Whether you are a young musician or know someone who is, it's not too late to apply! Details and application can be found at LSMacademy.org.
Association of Lutheran Church Musicians Conference Scheduled for July 22-25 at Valparaiso University, this conference, under the theme "Ponder Anew," invites worship leaders and musicians to explore fresh ways to lead the church's song. Can't make it to Valparaiso? No problem! Virtual participation is available. For more information, visit the ALCM website.
Calvin Institute of Christian Worship The Calvin Institute is offering grants through its Vital Worship, Vital Preaching program. These grants aim to invigorate worship practices in congregations across North America. The deadline for proposals is fast approaching on June 15.
Music that Makes Community Events MMC is hosting several workshops to foster community through song. Notable dates include a one-day community singing workshop in Kearney, Nebraska on May 31, and another in Atlanta, Georgia on July 13. Virtual gatherings and local community sings are also ongoing. More details can be found on their website.
Augsburg Fortress Highlights Augsburg Fortress is celebrating graduates and college students with two insightful publications: "We Rise Higher: Poems and Prayers for Graduates" and "Unscheduled Grace: 40 Reflections and Prayers for College Students." Additionally, save the dates for their summer music clinics happening across various locations in July and August.
Each of these events and resources provides a unique opportunity to deepen your faith, enhance your musical skills, and connect with the broader Lutheran community. We encourage you to participate and spread the word within our synod.
