Supporting Refugees and Global Service: Highlights from ELCA’s Global Links

The ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict has catalyzed significant migrations, with over 1.4 million refugees finding refuge in Poland. The Evangelical Church of the Augsburg Confession in Poland, led by the indomitable Rev. Katarzyna Rudkowska, is playing a pivotal role. Among the many notable efforts is the “I Overcome Barriers” program, designed to help Ukrainian refugees learn the Polish language, thus aiding their integration and ensuring they can utilize their professional qualifications.

A connection worth mentioning is Kornelia Rudkowska, a student under the International Women Leaders scholarship, who is affiliated with this transformative initiative. Furthermore, institutions like Newberry College, where Kornelia studies, and the Lutheran World Federation, are backing the project.

In other global news, the ELCA has welcomed 10 new missionaries this summer, poised to serve in eight countries. Their aspirations range from pastoral duties in Malaysia and Egypt to teaching in Slovakia and pastoral internships in France.

The ELCA’s endeavors stretch beyond these initiatives. They're partnering to restore resilient livelihoods in Ukraine, and they're offering numerous opportunities for global service.

Join ELCA’s journey, contribute to their missions, and stay informed through their newsletters and virtual gatherings, such as the International Women Leaders virtual event scheduled for Oct. 11, 2023.
