Experience Christ’s Journey: Stations of the Cross at Mountain View Lutheran on Good Friday
On Good Friday, April 18, from 7 am to 6 pm, Mountain View Lutheran Church in Phoenix invites the community to a self-guided time of meditation and prayer titled “The Way of the Cross.” The contemplative experience is designed to walk you through seven prayer stations that reflect on Jesus’ journey to the cross—while also connecting His suffering to the pain, injustice, and hope present in our world today. View a PDF flyer here.
Located throughout the back of the sanctuary, each station includes a powerful painting by renowned German Christian artist Sieger Köder, alongside Scripture, meditative reflections, and prayer. Visitors are welcome to move through the stations in order or at their own pace. The space will be open throughout the day, except during the Holy Week service from 12 to 1 pm.
The reflections, originally written by Jesuit theologian Theo Schmidkonz, SJ, are deeply moving. Each invites you to dwell not only in the story of Christ’s Passion but also to ask how His journey speaks into your own life—your struggles, your wounds, and your prayers for a hurting world. These meditations remind us that Jesus meets us in our sorrow and walks with us still.
Everyone is welcome to participate in this experience of prayer and reflection. Whether you stay for ten minutes or two hours, may you be blessed during this sacred time by the quiet, powerful presence of Christ.
