Advocacy Connections: June/July 2023

In this bi-monthly update from the ELCA Advocacy office, we share key events from June and July 2023.

We have made strides in policy advocacy, from empowering voices in the Farm Bill listening sessions to supporting the reintroduction of the Afghan Adjustment Act, enabling stability and security for Afghan evacuees. Additionally, we've seen the launch of the WHO's International Pathogen Surveillance Network for improved public health decision-making.

Unfortunately, the recent Supreme Court decision has reduced the Clean Water Act's reach, a crucial aspect of sustainable development goals. Lastly, President Biden has signed a bill raising the US debt ceiling until 2025, but the bill's impact on programs like SNAP food assistance raises concerns.
