2024 Synod Assembly Agenda available
We are excited to invite you to the 2024 Grand Canyon Synod Assembly, a significant event filled with worship, fellowship, and essential synod business, including a Bishop election. The assembly will take place from June 13-15, 2024, with a detailed schedule of activities and voting sessions. Thursday, June 13, 2024
• 5:00 PM: Registration opens with a service project.
• 7:30 PM: Join us for a Hymn Festival to kick off the assembly.
Friday, June 14, 2024
• 7:00 AM: Registration continues.
• 9:00 AM: The assembly is called to order, followed by greetings.
• 9:15 AM: The first ballot for the Bishop’s election takes place, followed by a report on the first ballot results at noon.
• 10:00 AM: Worship service.
• 11:15 AM: Plenary session covering financial reports and synod business.
• 12:15 PM: Lunch break.
• 1:15 PM: Continued plenary session and mission plan presentation.
• 1:45 PM: Bible study with Rev. Dr. Colleen Windham Hughes.
• 2:30 PM: Break and deadline to withdraw from the Bishop’s election.
• 3:15 PM: Celebrations and recognitions of milestones and volunteer efforts.
• 3:30 PM: Second ballot vote and subsequent workshops.
• 5:30 PM: Announcement of second ballot results.
• 6:15 PM: Dinner.
• 7:15 PM: Top seven questions answered and third ballot vote, followed by evening activities and bingo.
Saturday, June 15, 2024
• 8:30 AM: Plenary session continues with ELCA speaker reports.
• 9:15 AM: Speeches by top three candidates and fourth ballot vote.
• 9:45 AM: Chaplain Capt Matthew W. Dobyns will speak.
• 10:20 AM: Continued plenary session with Bishop’s and Synod Council report.
• 11:00 AM: Ballot results and final voting.
• 11:15 AM: Other synod business.
• 11:45 AM: Worship and closing of the assembly.
• 12:30 PM: Lunch and departure.
