Volunteer at the 2025 Churchwide Assembly—FAQs Now Live
The Grand Canyon Synod is honored to host the 2025 ELCA Churchwide Assembly, taking place in downtown Phoenix from July 28–August 2. This triennial gathering is the highest legislative body of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America—and we need your help to make it happen.
Up to 100 volunteers are needed to welcome and assist attendees from across the country. From airport greeters to tech support, from worship helpers to registration teams, each volunteer helps create a smooth and welcoming experience grounded in radical hospitality and shared faith.
📆 Assembly Dates:
• Pre-Assembly Roles Begin: Saturday, July 26
• Main Assembly: Monday, July 28–Saturday, August 2
📍 Location: Phoenix Convention Center, Sheraton, Hyatt, and Sky Harbor Airport
FAQs You Should Know
If you’re considering volunteering, we’ve made it easy to get prepared. We’ve compiled the most frequently asked questions below to help you confidently sign up:
Where do I check in?
Volunteer Check-In is on the 3rd floor of the North Building of the Phoenix Convention Center. You’ll receive your name badge and directions to your role.
When should I arrive?
Plan to check in 15 minutes before your assigned shift time. You’ll receive personalized instructions via email in advance.
How do I get there?
We highly encourage using Valley Metro Light Rail, which stops less than a block from the convention center. Download the app to plan your trip.
Is parking covered?
Yes! Volunteer parking at the Convention Center is fully covered by ELCA Churchwide. However, there are no in-and-out privileges, so if you leave and return, you’ll be charged twice.
Is housing included?
No, but we’ve arranged a discounted rate at the nearby Hilton Garden Inn. You must reserve by June 13.
Are meals provided?
Volunteers are responsible for their own meals. Light snacks and water will be available at the Volunteer Check-In table. Numerous fast casual dining spots are within walking distance.
What should I wear?
Think business casual and comfortable. Phoenix in July is hot, but the Convention Center is cool—layers are key.
Where can I store my stuff?
There is no secure storage, so bring only what you can carry with you.
