Portico Annual Report: 2025

Living Well to Serve Well: How Portico Supports Our Synod

At this year’s Grand Canyon Synod Assembly, we give thanks for the ministry of Portico Benefit Services, the ELCA’s benefit ministry, which quietly yet powerfully strengthens the wellbeing of those who serve across our church. Their 2025 Assembly Report offers a visual summary of 2024’s impact, and the numbers tell a powerful story of care, community, and holistic support.

Over 52,000 members were served by Portico in 2024—including rostered ministers, church staff, and their families. Their care extends far beyond insurance. Nearly 3,000 virtual healthcare visits were conducted through 98point6®, with hundreds of first-time users accessing convenient, text-based primary care. Through Sword Health’s digital therapy tools, members completed nearly 26,000 mobility and therapy sessions, helping maintain physical vitality for ministry.

Financial wellbeing also remains a cornerstone: members paid off over $199,000 in personal debt in 2024 through Lutheran Social Service of Minnesota’s financial counseling. That’s part of over $2.4 million paid off since 2008. With 15.17% of income saved for retirement on average among Traditional Program participants, we also see a commitment to long-term security.

Portico doesn’t just serve individuals—they serve the whole church by helping those who serve lead healthy, confident lives. As a Lutheran organization, Portico’s mission is rooted in the call to steward our bodies, minds, and finances with grace. A decade of top-tier customer care, strategic benefit designs, and responsive programs reflect this commitment to God’s call to serve—and to serve well.
