We join the people of the Southwest California Synod as we offer our care and condolences to the family and friends of Mrs. Beverly Anderson, who passed away on Monday, July 12, 2021. We also hold the Rev. J. Roger Anderson, Beverly’s husband and the first Bishop of the Southwest California Synod, in prayer.

Born Beverly Duncan, she graduated from Gustavus Adolphus College in 1958 with a degree in Elementary Education. She and fellow Gustavus Adolphus graduate Roger Anderson were married in 1959 and had three children, Craig, Laurel, and Mark.

She served as Director of Church Relations at California Lutheran University for eight years, also serving as Convocator, assistant to the provost and perpetual CLU ambassador. In 2008 she was honored with the prestigious Christus Award in recognition of the countless ways she served both the church and the University. For several years was the Regional Coordinator for the five ELCA Synods of Region 2.

In 2008 she and Bishop Anderson endowed the J. Roger and Beverly Anderson Scholarship at California Lutheran University for students preparing for the teaching professions, in honor of their children Laurel and Mark. They also established a scholarship at Gustavus Adolphus College in honor of their son Craig.

Beverly epitomized high energy, strong faith and a big heart in all of her activities. More details about a memorial service will be forthcoming.

Cards and notes may be sent to the Anderson family at: 574 Knollview Lane, Thousand Oaks, CA 91360-2537.
