File your annual corporate report to protect your congregation’s legal standing
A reminder to visit Arizona Corporation Commission, Nevada Secretary of State Businesses, or Utah Commerce Division of Corporations and file your annual report.
Did you know that because each of our congregations are individual corporations, these corporations can be administratively dissolved for failure to file an annual report? For example, in Arizona, congregations must file annual reports to stay in good standing as an Arizona corporation with all of the protections that Arizona law provides and requires.
The ELCA Model Constitution for Congregations 2019 (and later revisions) requires that the congregation be a properly organized corporation in their state (laws vary from state to state, so please consult an expert in your area).
Failure to maintain the congregation's corporate status can put contracts, giving, and property ownership in jeopardy, as some of our congregations have discovered. Please check your status now to avoid future complications!
