Double your impact to end hunger
Dear friend,
Hala, a 37-year-old Sudanese refugee living in Egypt, was raising four children when she lost her husband during the first wave of COVID-19.
Hala needed help to provide for her family and got connected to a ministry supported in part by your gifts to ELCA World Hunger called St. Andrew’s Refugee Services (StARS). As government agencies closed and refugee support waned in Cairo during the pandemic, StARS stayed open and provided emergency relief to Hala and her family.
The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) said this year that the pandemic “delivered one of the most devastating blows to global food security and nutrition in recent times.”
But you can make a difference. And right now, your gifts can go twice as far.
The ministry of ELCA World Hunger is ready to respond to ongoing effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, participating creatively and courageously in the renewing work God is doing — even in the most difficult times. In 60 countries including the United States, ELCA World Hunger is working to end hunger and poverty. From food pantries to water wells, health care to advocacy, gifts to ELCA World Hunger are at work through companions and partners near and far.
This is part of Jesus Christ’s call on our church. But to answer, we need you.
With anticipation for a hope-filled new year,
The Rev. Daniel Rift
Director, ELCA World Hunger and Lutheran Disaster Response Funding
