2025 Grand Canyon Synod Assembly: Your Questions Answered

When and where is the 2025 Synod Assembly?

The 2025 Grand Canyon Synod Assembly will take place from Thursday, June 12, to Friday, June 13, 2025, at Community Lutheran Church in Las Vegas, Nevada (3720 East Tropicana Avenue, Las Vegas, NV, 89121).

Why does the assembly location rotate?

With a synod that stretches across Arizona, Nevada, Utah, and the Navajo Nation, we rotate assembly locations between Tucson, Phoenix, and Las Vegas to make participation more equitable across our broad geographic area.

What’s being done to lower costs?

To minimize costs, this year’s assembly is structured to avoid expensive hotel stays on Friday night. Additionally, hosting the assembly in churches rather than hotels significantly reduces expenses for congregations.

How can congregations prepare?

Congregations should elect voting members at their annual meetings. The number of voting members depends on your congregation’s size. Additionally, congregations are encouraged to elect one youth or young adult and one person of color or whose primary language is not English. These elections help us reflect the diversity of God’s people.

S7.21.B23. In addition to the laity voting members elected in accordance with S7.21.A23:

a. Congregations may elect one additional lay voting member who is a person of color or person whose primary language is other than English.

b. Congregations may elect one additional lay voting member who is a youth (confirmed to age 17) or young adult (age 18 to 30, see †S6.04.01.). In all cases, a congregation should strive to elect an equal number of male and female voting members, or as close as possible.
