Preaching Workshop for Sundays in October
The Southeastern Synod invites you to a free preaching workshop on Tuesday, September 14, 2021, 6-9 am MST/PDT, to cover the lectionary texts for all Sundays in October 2021 (10/3-10/31).
The workshop is led by The Rev. Dr. Gordon Lathrop, a pastor of the ELCA and a retired professor of liturgy who has taught at two different seminaries of the ELCA, Yale Divinity School, and the Virginia Theological Seminary. Register here.

Gordon W. Lathrop is a pastor of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America and a retired professor of liturgy who has taught at two different seminaries of the ELCA, at Yale Divinity School, and at the Virginia Theological Seminary. Prior to that teaching he served parishes in Wisconsin and in Washington State. He has a doctorate in New Testament studies from the University of Nijmegen in the Netherlands (1969), and honorary doctorates in theology from the University of Helsinki (2011), the University of Iceland (2017), and the Virginia Theological Seminary (2019). In 1985 he was the President of the North American Academy of Liturgy. From 2011 until 2013 he was President of Societas Liturgica, the international society of scholars in liturgy. He lives now in Arlington, Virginia, and is a member of Resurrection Lutheran Church, Arlington.
Lathrop is the author of several books, some of which are directly relevant to this lectionary study: for example, The Pastor: A Spirituality (Fortress, 2006), The Four Gospels on Sunday: The New Testament and the Reform of Christian Worship (Fortress, 2012), Saving Images: The Presence of the Bible in Christian Liturgy (Fortress, 2017), and Proclaiming the Living Word: A Handbook for Preachers (Augsburg Fortress, 2018). Two books are forthcoming: in 2022, Fortress will publish The Assembly: A Spirituality, and in 2023, Augsburg Fortress will publish Lectionary Mosaics: Three Readings for Proclamation and Reflection.
