Ecumenical Statement for the Healing of Memories
The Rev. Lowell G. Almen, bishop of the Grand Canyon Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, and Bishop Gerald F. Kicanas of the Catholic Tucson Diocese, signed an ecumenical statement on October 20, noting this 2017 marks the 500th anniversary of the beginning of the Lutheran Reformation. The statement calls attention to two important ecumenical documents, the Joint Declaration on the Doctrine of Justification (1999) and Declaration on the Way (2015).
“We are convinced that – under the blessing of God’s Spirit – we will continue to discover together profound paths to reconciliation, mutual respect, and care for the neighbor,” the statement declares.
