Community Organizing for Transformational Ministry is co-led by a team of four including Dr. Cynthia Moe-Lobeda, Dr. Ray Pickett, Deacon Kelly Marciales, Director of the ELCA Organizing for Mission Network, and Mary Lim-Lampe, Director of Genesis, a community organizing affiliate in Oakland.
It is an innovative model that incorporates theological and biblical reflection, and attention to beauty and art as well as training in more traditional arts of community organizing (power analysis, organizing cycle, self-interest, and of course more).
The course/training is for graduate students as well as practitioners of community organizing and leaders of faith communities.
Community Organizing for Transformative Ministry

What: This five-day formation event equips people to use arts of community organizing to revitalize and reimagine communities of faith as agents of the Spirit’s liberating work in our lives and in the world. This class is designed to engage leaders in the work of spiritual and social transformation through practices that cultivate the Beloved Community.
When: 9am Tuesday, January 19 2021 -2pm Saturday, January 23 2021
Objective: This class will cover the basic tools and practices of spiritually grounded community organizing from a biblical and theological perspective. The course will deal with practical skill-building in how to engage the public mission of the church to work for peace and justice in the world.
