Embrace the Journey of Retirement at the 2024 Grand Canyon Synod Retirees Retreat

  • Spirit in the Desert Retreat Center 7415 East Elbow Bend Road Carefree, AZ, 85377 United States (map)

As we navigate the turbulent waters of today’s world, finding community and spiritual support becomes more crucial than ever. This year, the Grand Canyon Synod warmly invites all retired pastors, deacons, spouses, widows, and widowers to the 20th Annual Retirees Retreat, taking place from October 28th to 30th, 2024, at the serene Spirit in the Desert Retreat Center in Carefree, Arizona. View this PDF for registration and scholarship information, or contact Jan Fosen at (602-758-0875) or via email at fosen1215@gmail.com with questions.

This retreat is an opportunity to connect with fellow retirees, engage in deep spiritual renewal, and reflect on your journey through life and faith. The event kicks off on Monday, October 28th, at 1:00 PM and will close with a lunch on Wednesday, October 30th. Participants will experience a mix of fellowship, worship, and learning, all framed within this year’s theme: “Signs of Hope in Turbulent Times.”

Highlighting this year’s retreat is our keynote speaker, Rev. Mark Hanson, former ELCA Presiding Bishop and President of the Lutheran World Federation. Known for his profound impact on our church both domestically and globally, Rev. Hanson will share insights and inspirations from his extensive leadership experiences. Additionally, the newly re-elected Bishop Deborah Hutterer will provide a “State of the Grand Canyon Synod” report, enriching our understanding of our community’s current status and future direction.

Retreat attendees will have the choice to stay directly at the Spirit in the Desert, with rooms available on a first-come, first-served basis, or at the nearby Hampton Inn. Comprehensive registration packages cover accommodations, meals—from Monday’s dinner through Wednesday’s lunch—and all program sessions, with fees generously offset by contributions from synod congregations and other donors.

For those needing financial assistance, scholarships are discreetly available by contacting Registrar Jan Fosen at (602-758-0875) or fosen1215@gmail.com.

Join us for a time of reflection, dialogue, and community. Please make sure to register early to secure your spot at this uplifting event. Together, let’s find hope and guidance in these challenging times.
