Nourishing body and soul: how Peace Lutheran Church serves the West Valley community

Rev. Dan Potaznick, Director of Generosity and Strategic Development, shares a note about his time with Peace Lutheran Church in Peoria.

“This weekend I visited Peace Lutheran Church in Peoria to give thanks, and it was a busy Sunday. Young members celebrated their first communion, the congregation kicked off their spring endowment drive, and members of both All Saints Lutheran (Phoenix) and Peace Lutheran joined together as a joint choir. 

If that wasn't enough for one Sunday, after worship I joined members & visitors to pack 800 pounds, or 1200 bags, of rice and beans for the West Valley Community Food Pantry.”

2023 Heat Relief Initiative and Extreme Heat Webinar

Did you know that over 1,000 Arizonans have died in the past two years due to heat-related and heat-caused illnesses?

Arizona Faith Network has launched the 2023 Heat Relief Initiative to help establish faith-based hydration, cooling, and heat relief respite centers throughout the Phoenix Valley. Their web page offers many options for organizations and individuals to be involved. Multiple job openings are available for Heat Respite Site Lead and Heat Respite Site Assistant.

Last chance to participate in Stewardship For All Seasons

The Grand Canyon Synod has the opportunity to provide 10 scholarships for Stewardship for All Seasons. This will be the last year that a $2,900 scholarship will be provided, making the costs to our congregations only $250 for a quality yearlong stewardship program. View a PDF flyer here.

In Memoriam: Larry Struve

We share a letter from Vic Williams regarding the 4/15/2023 passing of Larry Struve, who was LEAN’s advocate for many years and was a lifelong member of Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd in Reno. “He was know by many people at both ends of the state of Nevada as a tireless advocate for our state’s voiceless and underserved.“
