Life Experiences: Hello! My name is Layra. I am glad to be given the wonderful opportunity to be nominated for youth representative. A little bit about myself is that I am 15 years old and a freshman at Desert View Highschool and I attended San Juan Bautista Lutheran Church. I am very active in my church, and learned about the Synod Council from my Pastor who has served on the synod council in the past. I am also the youth representative on my church council. I enjoy all the activities and helping in my church, such as going to my youth group which I'm thrilled to be one of the youth leaders. Another activity that was an honor to attend was the Youth Summit last year at the ELCA office in Chicago with Rev. Jacqui Pagel where I learned how to be a better leader for other youth. I learned communication skills and how to work with other youth with fun activities that we did during the youth summit. Within my youth group, we are so excited to be doing upcoming projects like a community garden and food drives that will give back to our community. I enjoy giving back to the community whenever I am able to. I also teach the Sunday Bible school for the kids as I love to help them learn about Jesus’s love and his greatness. At school, I am very focused on my academics, always putting my education first. I am an honor roll student, taking all honors classes. I have learned many leadership skills from other programs, such as AFJROTC. This class helps me learn important leadership skills I need to succeed, and take initiative. I know these skills will be very useful to have as youth representative. I am involved in my school’s mariachi and softball teams, learning the meaning of passion for music and art as I sing, play the guitar, and play the trumpet. I really enjoy playing softball it helps me to be active while learning teamwork skills. In all, I am very grateful for this grand opportunity, I’m sure that I will be a great pick for youth representative. Thank you so much!
