Mountain View Lutheran Church (11002 S. 48th Street, Phoenix, AZ 85044), hosts The Way of the Cross,” A Time of Meditation and Prayer, on Good Friday, April 7,2023, 7am – 6pm.
The Time of Meditation and Prayer leads you through seven stations where you will go alongside Jesus on his way to the cross.
The stations are in the back of the Sanctuary of Mountain View Lutheran Church. Station 1 is located in the back of the choir loft, station 7 is located at the opposite side. You might visit the stations in order 1 to 7 or in any order as they are available.
At each station you will find a painting, Scripture reading, meditation and a prayer. They will lead you along the way of Jesus’ suffering.
The meditations have two perspectives. One looks at the experience of Jesus’ suffering, the other looks at situations present today in our world and in our personal lives. You then can ask where you find yourselves in these scenes. The prayers invite you to tell Jesus your situations that trouble you.
May you be blessed during this time by the presence of Jesus. Everybody is welcome.
The artist of the paintings is Sieger Köder (1925-2016). He is one of the best known artists of Christian art in German- speaking Europe. The paintings (except station 1) are displayed in the Catholic Church Sankt Stephanus in Aalen- Wasseralfingen, Germany.
The meditations and prayers are written by Theo Schmidkonz, SJ and taken from the book “Kreuzweg- Erfahrungen,” Schwabenverlag AG Ostfildern, 2011. They were translated into English by Hanna Loehr and Ingeborg Mack.
*The Worship Center is available during the above times, except when Holy Week Services are being held (12 pm - 1 pm).
