From Silence to Voice: Mosaic’s Mission in Arizona

Faithful presence. Relentless compassion. These are the marks of Mosaic, a Lutheran social ministry that serves people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. With deep roots in Arizona through both Mosaic and its subsidiary Soreo, this ELCA-affiliated organization continues to embody the church’s call to love and serve—especially in “interesting times” like ours.

In Phoenix, Tucson, Yuma, and Kingman, Mosaic and Soreo bring vital care to over 5,000 individuals across 12 states. And they do so in the name of the church—our church.

Take Mark, for example. Once institutionalized and silenced, he now lives in a Mosaic-operated group home and speaks for himself again. Or Angie, a mother exhausted from caring for her son Joshua around the clock—until Soreo provided overnight care and restored her ability to rest. “Life-saving,” she calls it.

These are not isolated stories. They are signs of God’s love made real through the tireless work of Lutheran ministries like Mosaic, which has never strayed from its 112-year-old mission “to empower people to live the full life God intended for them.”

Mosaic also invites congregations into this work. Through Rejoicing Spirits, an inclusive worship initiative designed for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, many churches have experienced a renewed sense of mission and vitality. The mission of Mosaic is the mission of the Church—to lift up the lowly, care for the vulnerable, and rejoice in the God-given dignity of every person. Thank you for your partnership in this sacred work.
