Global Spotlight: 2024 Africa Lutheran Church Leadership Consultation
The 2024 Africa Lutheran Church Leadership Consultation (ALCLC) is currently underway in Abuja, Nigeria, from September 18 to 22, 2024. This year’s theme, “We, who are many, are one body” (1 Cor. 10:17), encourages deep reflection on the importance of unity within the African Lutheran communion and how it can serve as a model for the global church. Hosted by the Lutheran Church of Christ in Nigeria (LCCN), this significant event marks the first major leadership meeting since the Lutheran World Federation’s Thirteenth Assembly in Poland last year.
Bringing together 90 participants, including leaders from the Lutheran World Federation (LWF), women and youth leaders, and representatives from the Theological Education and Formation (TEF) network and the Climate Justice Forum, the consultation aims to foster dialogue, learning, and the sharing of experiences. Rev. Dr. Samuel Dawai, LWF Regional Secretary for Africa, emphasizes the role of this gathering in strengthening relationships across the subregions of the African Lutheran church.
Throughout the consultation, leaders will explore how unity in diversity is not just a symbolic concept, but a living expression of communion with Christ and each other. Archbishop Musa Panti Filibus, former LWF president, affirmed this, saying, “Our gathering embodies our ongoing journey together, reflecting our aspiration for unity in diversity.”
As the ALCLC unfolds, participants will return to their communities with a renewed sense of purpose and passion for ministry, equipped to navigate the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.
