Seeds Monthly: Celebrating Diversity and Strengthening Faith: Key Updates from the ELCA

In the latest Seeds Monthly, we find this summer is full of opportunities for growth and fellowship within the ELCA community. Join us in celebrating Pride Month through engaging stories from our LGBTQIA+ members, participate in the massive ELCA Youth Gathering in New Orleans from July 16-20, and learn about new initiatives in family leave policies for our ministers.

As we step into the heart of summer, our community has several enriching opportunities to engage, reflect, and grow in faith. Read the original Seeds Monthly here. Here’s some highlights of what’s happening in our ELCA community:

Pride Month Celebrations: This June, we honor Pride Month by sharing the voices and stories of our LGBTQIA+ siblings through a series of interviews available at livinglutheran.org. These narratives not only highlight personal journeys and hopes but also embody our commitment to inclusivity and affirmation within the church. It’s a perfect time to understand and appreciate the diverse experiences that enrich our faith community.

ELCA Youth Gathering in New Orleans: From July 16-20, nearly 16,000 young Lutherans will converge in New Orleans for the “Created to Be” themed Youth Gathering. This event promises a mix of worship, fellowship, and service activities, with live streams of major gatherings scheduled from July 16-19 in the evenings and the morning of July 20. Details and livestream links will be available on ELCA.org/Gathering. This is an incredible opportunity for our youth to deepen their faith in a vibrant communal setting.

Family and Parental Leave Policies: The Quality of Call Initiative recently released a report on how synod compensation guidelines address family and parental leave for ministers. This effort reflects our ongoing commitment to support those who lead and care for our congregations, ensuring they have the support they need to manage both their ministries and family responsibilities.

Navigating Challenges with Hope: In a message that resonates deeply in our current times, Bishop Eaton reminded us at the 2024 Synod Assembly that despite global unrest and the lingering effects of the pandemic, we are people of hope, sustained by God’s enduring love. This message is crucial as we navigate the complexities of modern life with faith and courage.

These updates not only highlight the active engagement of our community in crucial social issues but also our dedication to nurturing a supportive, vibrant faith environment for all. Let’s participate wholeheartedly and help foster a church that truly reflects God’s love and justice.
