Candidacy Research summaries and hearings available

In the tenth chapter of Romans we read, “How are they to call on one in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in one of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone to proclaim him? And how are they to proclaim him unless they are sent?”
— Romans 10:14-15

In response to this and other invitations in Scripture, the church continues to educate, form, and send rostered ministers so that all may call on Jesus Christ, our crucified and risen Lord. Our process to do so is currently under review.

In March 2022 a diverse group was appointed to examine and improve the candidacy process that equips rostered ministers for service in our church. This team is the Candidacy Leadership Development Working Group (CLDWG.)

In the last year we have spent much of our time hosting virtual and in-person listening sessions to learn the needs of our church. We also completed a survey for those excluded by the candidacy process. As we move forward, the working group is prioritizing feedback from our church.

All members of the ELCA are invited to hearings at which the working group will share its findings. There will also be an opportunity for response. More details will be shared at the hearings; you can find an executive summary of the team’s work here.

The hearings will be hosted via Zoom. You do not need to register for these sessions. Please mark your calendars for one of the following:

Thank you for your prayers for this group as we seek to increase proclamation of the gospel.

Grace and peace,
The Candidacy Leadership Development Working Group
