Synod Spotlight on the Manna Grant: Apply by 9/13/2024

The Grand Canyon Synod is excited to spotlight the Manna Grant, a unique opportunity for congregations, synodically authorized worshipping communities (SAWCs), and special ministries to help alleviate hunger and address its root causes within our synod. With approximately $20,000 available for funding, this grant encourages projects that not only provide immediate hunger relief but also tackle underlying issues such as poverty, employment instability, and racial inequity.

The Manna Grant is a powerful example of our synod’s commitment to diversity, inclusion, and justice. Rooted in the legacy of Orpha Hoganson, a former librarian and member of Ascension Lutheran Church in Paradise Valley, the grant honors her lifelong dedication to hunger relief—both locally and globally. Orpha’s deep empathy for those in need led her to make a lasting impact through her estate, which has funded this initiative.

Eligibility & Application Process:

All organized congregations, new starts, SAWCs, and special ministries in the Grand Canyon Synod are eligible to apply. To be considered for funding, projects must demonstrate a commitment to diversity in leadership and decision-making, while addressing both immediate hunger and one or more root causes of hunger.

Applications are due by midnight on September 13, 2024. Late submissions will not be accepted, so make sure to submit your completed form to the Office of the Bishop at office@gcsynod.org before the deadline.

Let’s work together to make a lasting difference in our communities and address the systemic causes of hunger.
