The September Sumud for Justice in Palestine and Israel newsletter shares crucial updates on the ongoing efforts to bring peace, justice, and relief to the region. As tensions continue to rise, with increased settler violence against Palestinians and worsening conditions in refugee camps, the call for global advocacy is more urgent than ever. Thousands have taken to the streets in Israel to demand action, while here in the U.S., Lutherans are encouraged to use their voices to speak truth and justice.

The ELCA, through Lutheran Disaster Response, has donated $250,000 to support schools and provide psycho-social assistance for children in the Holy Land, reflecting our commitment to standing with our global neighbors. You too can contribute to these efforts by donating to the “Crisis in the Middle East” fund.

We also lift up the dedicated work of Pastors Gabi and Meghan Aelabouni. Rev. Dr. Meghan Aelabouni, having faithfully served in Jerusalem and the West Bank, began her new call as Bishop of the Rocky Mountain Synod on August 1. Her work with Sumud has been a true gift, and we hold her and her new synod in our prayers.

Looking ahead, we invite you to participate in the Global Sunday of Mutual Flourishing on October 6. Set aside time in your congregation to pray for peace and flourishing in Palestine and Israel. Sign up at mutualflourishing.com to access resources for your worship service.
