Spotlight: The Lutheran World Federation and Our Global Family

The Lutheran tradition is deeply rooted in a global vision of faith, service, and community. The Lutheran World Federation (LWF), founded in 1947, embodies this vision, bringing together 149 member churches from 99 countries, representing over 77 million Lutherans worldwide. This remarkable network reflects our shared commitment to spreading the Gospel, promoting justice, and fostering unity among diverse cultures and communities.

As we wrap up our first week of our Synod Spotlight series, we turn our attention to the global Lutheran community, celebrating the rich history and vibrant present of Lutherans around the world. From its origins in the Reformation, the Lutheran movement has grown into a worldwide communion, united by a shared faith in Christ and a commitment to serve our neighbors.

Today, the LWF plays a vital role in addressing global challenges, advocating for peace and human rights, and supporting sustainable development in some of the world’s most vulnerable regions. The LWF’s work is a powerful reminder that our faith calls us to be active participants in the world, working together to bring about God’s justice and mercy.

We are proud to be part of this global family and invite you to learn more about the Lutheran World Federation and the impact of Lutherans worldwide. Whether it’s through prayer, financial support, or direct involvement in global initiatives, there are many ways to connect with our brothers and sisters in Christ across the globe.
