his November, Lutheran advocacy efforts are making a meaningful impact across the globe and in our communities. Here’s a snapshot of updates from the Lutheran Office for World Community (LOWC) and our state public policy offices, showcasing how faith is transforming public life. United Nations Advocacy:

At the UN General Assembly Third Committee, LOWC Director Christine Mangale and ELCA representatives engaged in crucial discussions on human rights, including food sovereignty for the Palestinian people, migrant rights, and global gender justice. Notably, the first-ever UN human rights report presented as a graphic novel captured the horrors and hopes of vulnerable communities. LOWC continues to amplify Lutheran voices in these vital conversations, ensuring that our faith informs global justice.

Colorado:

Lutheran Advocacy Ministry-Colorado celebrated advocacy wins on Election Day, with the passage of measures supporting water infrastructure and removing outdated language banning same-sex marriage. Director Peter Severson, who steps down after a decade of faithful service, reflected on advocacy as central to our baptismal calling. His leadership has inspired countless others to engage in civic life.

Ohio:

Hunger Network in Ohio hosted a hopeful celebration amidst political challenges. The event honored community leaders and highlighted the ongoing work to end hunger, including policy advocacy and grassroots mobilization. Deacon Nick Bates, celebrating 10 years of ministry, invites all to recommit to Christ’s call to justice.

Pennsylvania:

Discipleship met civic engagement as Pennsylvania Lutherans served as nonpartisan election observers, promoting peace and unity during the election. A “Love Anyway Feast” at Van Kirk Lutheran Church provided a community space to connect and find hope amid political divisions.

Texas and Wisconsin:

In Texas, congregations are engaging in voter advocacy and preparing for the upcoming legislative session, while Lutheran advocates in Wisconsin focus on issues like food justice, election reflections, and preparing new leadership for ministry succession.

As a church, we live out our faith by advocating for justice, accompaniment, and equity. Join us in prayer, action, and reflection as we seek to embody Christ’s call to love and serve the world. For full updates and ways to get involved, visit ELCA.org/advocacy.
