Confronting Christian Nationalism: A Call to Action for Our Community

Last month, an alarming development unfolded in Louisiana as Governor Jeff Landry mandated the display of the Ten Commandments in every public classroom. This act is not isolated but a part of a growing trend towards Christian nationalism, which seeks to blur the vital line separating church and state. In response, the Christians Against Christian Nationalism invites our community to join in a critical discussion on combating this ideology.

Christian nationalism threatens the integrity of our faith and democracy by merging political identity with religious beliefs in a way that can marginalize or alienate non-Christians and even Christians who may differ in their approach to the separation of church and state. As Lutherans committed to justice and inclusivity, it is our responsibility to address and oppose such distortions of Christianity.

We urge you to utilize a new toolkit developed by Christians Against Christian Nationalism for community leaders and churches, designed to facilitate local meetings where this issue can be tackled head-on. The toolkit provides a step-by-step guide to organizing these discussions, complete with resources, promotional materials, activity suggestions, and strategic goals.
