Lutheran Social Services of Nevada 2021 update

2021 Assembly Reports: View reports for our 2021 assembly on our assembly report page and in this collection of blog posts.

Lutheran Social Services of Nevada recently opened the doors to our new, expanded DigiMart food pantry.

We went from a 750 square feet pantry to a 3,000 square feet pantry made possible by a $750,000 Impact Grant awarded by Nevada Women’s Philanthropy. This enables us to have an even greater impact with our community. We can serve an additional 5,000 households a year, store 80,000 pounds of perishables, canned and dried foods stored in our new walk-in cooler and freezer and greatly enlarged shelf space.

Most of us have experienced tremendous hardships this year, and Las Vegas was also hit incredibly hard by the pandemic. However, at LSSN we didn’t step back we stepped up. Since March 2020, we have served nearly 70,000 Las Vegans through our food pantry distributions, and the need is increasing. A few weeks ago we set a record of most people served. In a three-hour period, we distributed food to 374 households, and many were first time clients.

We pray the effects of the pandemic are lifting, but we continue to see so many more people in need. We are serving more than four times the number of families today than we did prior to the pandemic. That’s more than 1,700 families per month.

We continue to be lifted financially and spiritually by our individual and community partners. While we’ve had to adjust the way we deliver our services, we haven’t stopped and are grateful each day for the ability to meet the needs of our community.
