“Is This Not the Fast I Chose?”: A 2025 Lenten Call to Disrupt Injustice

Sumud, in collaboration with Bethlehem Bible College, is launching a Lenten series inspired by Isaiah 58:6: “Is this not the fast I chose: to loose the bonds of injustice, to undo the thongs of the yoke, to let the oppressed go free, and to break every yoke?”

This year’s theme, “Our Christian Call to Disrupt Injustice,” invites congregations and individuals to reflect deeply on our role as Christians in addressing systemic injustice. The resource package, which will include Bible study guides, worship materials, and reflection prompts, will be available on Sumud’s webpage by mid-February. These resources are designed to inspire both personal and communal action as we prepare our hearts during this season of reflection, repentance, and renewal.

How to Get Involved

  • Stay Tuned: The resource package will be published mid-February.

  • Explore Resources: Visit the Sumud webpage at https://www.elca.org/our-work/publicly-engaged-church/sumud to access materials as they become available.

  • Engage Your Community: Plan to incorporate these resources into your congregation’s Lenten practices or share them with your community.

Rooted in Lutheran theology, this series challenges us to live out our baptismal call by embracing justice as central to our faith. Together, let us answer God’s call to action during Lent, embodying hope, resilience, and love in the face of injustice.
