Five Ways to Support Refugees and Immigrants in 2025

As people of faith, we are called to love our neighbors—including those seeking refuge in our communities. In an era where many immigrant and refugee families face challenges and uncertainty, there are concrete ways we can stand in solidarity and extend the radical welcome of Christ.

Global Refuge has outlined five meaningful actions we can take to support immigrants and refugees this year:

1. Share Truth and Combat Misinformation

Misinformation about immigration is rampant. We can be part of the solution by sharing accurate information about refugee contributions, uplifting personal success stories, and challenging harmful myths. Personal testimonies speak volumes—help amplify the voices of those who have found safety and opportunity in the U.S.

2. Volunteer Your Time and Talents

Helping newcomers adjust to life in a new country requires many hands and hearts. Opportunities to serve include assisting with apartment setups, providing transportation, tutoring English learners, and helping children with homework. Even small acts of service can make a profound impact.

3. Raise Your Voice

Advocacy is a powerful way to support humane immigration policies that uphold human dignity. Contact your representatives, share trusted resources, engage with social media advocacy, and encourage your congregation to take action in welcoming refugees.

4. Make a Financial Gift

Organizations like Global Refuge depend on financial support to provide essential services. Monthly giving, faith-based campaigns, and personal contributions help sustain their work year-round. Consider how your church community can contribute to refugee support efforts.

5. Hire a Refugee or Immigrant

Employment is a key factor in long-term stability for refugees. Business owners can participate in hiring programs, while individuals can mentor job seekers, share employment opportunities, or support refugee-owned businesses.

A Call to Welcome

As Lutherans, we are called to live out Christ’s love through hospitality, justice, and service. Supporting refugees and immigrants strengthens not only their lives but also our communities. If you’re ready to take action, explore volunteer and advocacy opportunities through Global Refuge.
