Advent Hymn: There is no Child, Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada

The Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada presents There is no Child as part of Lutheran World Federation’s Hymns of Advent and Christmas, presented by vocalists from the Eastern Synod.

Conductor - ELCIC/ACC Companion of the Worship Arts laureate Robb Wilson
Text - New Zealand lyricist Shirley Erena Murray
Music - Colin Gibson
Lyrics:
There is no child so small,
no scrap of life so precious,
who is not born like Jesus,
whose cry is like us all,
whose cry is like us all.

There is no child unfed,
left hungry now at Christmas
but God will ask for justice,
for shelter and for bread,
for shelter and for bread.

There is no child so lost,
no refugee so nameless
that God will hold us blameless,
who share no care or cost,
who share no care or cost.

There is no child so cheap,
in warfare or destruction,
that love cannot take action
when God is made to weep,
when God is made to weep.

There is not one of us
who could not be more giving,
and in the gift more loving,
to light a star for peace,
to light a star for peace.

A Singing Communion of Churches

During this Advent season, LWF member churches are sharing hymns from their congregations to show how the Lutheran communion regions prepare for Christ’s coming into this world.

We want to use this period to reflect on and celebrate the diversity, uniqueness and oneness of God’s gifts to us. Follow the #lwfadvent calendar lutheranworld.org/advent-hymns
