Bishop Steve's Notes on the Youth Summit
Dear Fellow Youth Workers,
In the spring of 2010 representatives from four churches sat down together and discussed the great need of a program that would bring local youth groups together on a regular basis for fun and fellowship. This would give youth the chance to make new friends and see old friends that they met through other opportunities such as Tirosh, Campfirmation, Youth Quake, and any other place where they may have met before. By participating in these monthly events the scattered youth groups of the Valley can become a close network of friends who continually pray and support each other in their every day faith journeys. It is also a great opportunity for us, their leaders, to network, share ideas, and become a support system for each other. This monthly event is called THE IMPACT (Valley Youth Groups Unite!)
Since the beginning we have currently held 4 events with our fifth in less than two weeks. The themes have been fun, wild, and extremely participatory. We have played capture the flag covered in our team colors, solved a mystery, played sardines, accidentally set off a smoke detector by using a fog machine in enclosed spaces, and played in slime. On Sept 4th we will be coming together for a red carpet premiere of the amazingly uplifting movie To Save a Life.
Today I am writing to you to ask you to please consider hosting one of the upcoming event dates. To be a host we ask that you plan the evening events. Here is a suggested flow of the night.
6 PM – Youth Groups arrive
6:15 – Welcome from the host church either youth leader or youth
Ice Breaker
6:30 – Eat (break groups up so people are sitting by some one they don’t know and offer a table discussion question that relates to the theme of the night, don’t make it too heavy though)
6:50 – Clean Up
7:00 – Worship – music, short meditation, etc that supports the theme
7:20 – FUN!!!!
Ideas: Dance, concert, games, movie, talent show, guest speaker, guitar hero, community outreach, hay ride, sports, etc.
8:45 Wrap Up
9 – Dismissal
We ask that the youth bring a $3 donation to help cover the cost of the food and supplies bought for the night.
THE IMPACT (Valley Youth Groups Unite!) meets from 6 PM to 9 PM on Saturdays. Below is a list of the upcoming dates for the academic school year of 2010 – 2011. As you may notice we try our best starting in November to make them the second Saturday of each month. Please sign up for one of the months that is To Be Determined

As we get more churches involved we would like to meet on a regular basis to help plan and support new groups stepping up to help us. We do ask that you not only host but participate in the other monthly events.
